Indonesia
August 2018, I travelled for the first time around Indonesia. Backpacking with a friend from Jakarta to Lombok. In about 11 days, we visited 3 islands. Java, Bali and Lombok.
Day 1-2 : Jakarta and Yogyakarta
We arrived quite late in Jakarta, so we spend the night in a hotel, and the next day, early in the morning we took a flight to Yogyakarta. I know it's not very eco-friendly to take a plane but we were running out of time. But still, if you want to go by train, it's possible from Jakarta.
When we arrived in Yogyakarta we visited Borobudur and Prambanan temples. Around 11pm we took a night train to Malang :)
Day 3 : Malang and Mount Bromo
We spend the day in the city and we book a tour to Mount Bromo. It's a very colourful city, but we didn't want to stay long. We prefer to focus on nature and hiking ;) The Tour started at 3AM.
Mount Bromo is amazing. I highly recommend it, the sunrise is stunning. If you're lucky enough, you can see the volcano blowing some ashes.
Day 4 : Kawah Ijen
Another impressive scenery, but this time it's a crater of a volcano. Again, we wake up super early and enjoyed the hike + sunrise! In the crater, you can see miners carrying baskets of sulfur. It's recommended to wear a mask, the sulfur will hurt you. Even if the miners don't wear any protection :/
Around 5pm we took a ferry to Bali.
Day 5-8: Bali
I didn't really enjoy Bali. The amount of tourists totally changed the nature of this island (I'm talking about Ubud and Denpasar). Everything is made for lazy tourists. Those "fake" rice terraces in the middle of the city (Ubub) carrying tourists on buses from spot to spot. Well, that's not the kind of holiday I like. I personally prefer places which are not easily accessible (lazy tourists won't go there) and also when the entrance is limited. (But that's another problem)!
To tell you the truth, the north of Bali is great. Nice beaches, great nature and you can see different species of monkey x)
Day 9-11 : Lombok!
If you ask me which island to visit in Indonesia, it would be Lombok for sure! Peaceful island, good food, easy to travel around the island, great spot for photography, etc.
Actually, our initial plan was to hike Mount Rinjani. Unfortunately, a earthquake happened and more than 500 tourists were stuck on the mountains. So we changed our plan, rented scooters and ride around the island :)
Well, that's it! If you need more information, just write something in the comment section! Cheers
